29TH GOLD RUSH TRAIL SLED DOG MAIL RUN 2021 (2022 Artwork will be posted soon)

Artwork by Sonja Maas of Germanyl

The Gold Rush Trail Dog Sled Mail Run is living history for the past 28 years. With the current pandemic, we have had to scale our event back to comply with Provincial Health Officer orders and recommendations, but, as the saying goes: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds". The 2021 Mail Run will continue! Our dedicated mushers and their dog teams will still be sworn in as official mail carriers and will carry Canada Post mail in their dog sleds over the Gold Rush Trail to Barkerville.

Please support this special year by purchasing unique Mail Run envelopes that are sold from this website or at local outlets, stamped “Carried by Dog Team” and hand cancelled by volunteers in Quesnel, Wells and Barkerville, the three post offices along the route. Once delivered to Barkerville, this mail enters the regular mail system for delivery anywhere in the world.

The artist this year is Sonja Maas, a resident of Herford Germany spent the winter of 2020 as a ‘work away’ student on a rural cattle ranch in British Columbia’s Cariboo region.  In addition to cattle and horses, the ranchers also raise and train sled dogs.  It didn’t take much for Sonja to become heavily involved with the dogs and to participate in the delivery of the sled dog mail in the 2020 running of the Gold Rush Trail Sled Dog Mail Run.  She has used her artistic talents to document her memory of that special experience and to share it with all of us for our envelope artwork for 2021.

As things evolve, we will be posting updates on our FaceBook page and on this website.

Mail Run update!

We are really hoping for a return to “normal” and are actively planning the 30th Annual Mail Run.

A significant change is moving the date to the end of February. We learned last year that we have better snow conditions and it gives the mushers more winter time with their dogs so they are better conditioned for the runs.

Envelopes will go on sale in December in time for Christmas gifts so your friends can send their envelope “Delivered by Dog Team” in February 2022.

Check back here in December for more updates!
